'99 Transit braking problem

Postby sjs205 » Sun Jan 02, 2011 8:03 pm

Hello all,

I seem to be having a problem with the braking system on my '99 LWB, semi-hi-top transit with 6-stud wheels; It seems that whenever I brake the rear wheels tend to skid, even when only traveling about 5/10 mph.

I jacked the front of the van up and tried to turn the wheels with the brakes applied but couldn't budge them, even when using a leaver bar on the wheel nuts but I have also noticed that I have some small rust spots on the front discs even after a long - 200 mile - trip so i'm not sure what is going on. Could this be a sure sign that the front brakes are not working as well as they should?

I have also noticed that the hand break has jammed on the last two times i've taken her out but I guess this could just be the weather recently. Does it sound like it could be the LAV?

Can anyone also advise where I can get hold of a new lower sliding bolt along with the top caliper mounting bolt? Seems somebody has messed them both up at some point, I think the only way I'll get them out is to weld new bolts heads onto them. I'm based in southampton and am unable to find a comercial vehicle scrap yeard around here...

Thanks in advanced,

Steven
