Transit 280cdi 2007 - Electrical Fault / Immobiliser

Postby wombat_markt » Fri Jan 07, 2011 1:01 am

Hello there,

I am about to set fire to my transit... well I would if it hadn't stopped working for the fourth time whilst driving through France and is currently in Calais.... I will have to put some sheep in it first. The problem is that after a drive of a good distance and stopping the engine, when trying to restart the engine is immobilised. The light on the dash flashes (very fast for a minute or so then slows down to the normal light) and the display shows the time and a lot of dashes underneath. The first time this happened in November it went to a Ford garage who replaced a relay and the van worked for a while over short distances. The second time it was diagnosed as a problem with the non standard alarm which was bypassed and the van drove another 150 miles before the same problem occurred. In each occurrence it was when I stopped for fuel. The third time, again stopping for fuel (no alarm) the same thing happened. I picked up the van from the third Ford garage who said they too could not find the problem when plugged in to the computer but the van was working again. 80 miles or so later at Calais, I stopped to buy a ticket for the ferry only to be 'disappointed' when the same problem occurred, this time however I had noticed a flick of the LED light when I changed the temperature guage on the heating system whilst driving... previously the aircon light on the temp control had been stuck 'on' (green light) and couldn't be turned off. I came back by foot on the boat, mostly at the bar. There seems to be a pretty fatal electrical issue with it... does anybody know of any problems like this? I have read the piece about an older Transit camper on this site and have tried 'recharging' the keys and changing them around but no joy. There also seems to be a clicking sound coming from one of the relays when various electrical functions are used... all other electrical things seem to work however.... so four Ford garages later (admittedly French) I am no closer to having solved the problem... help please.
