I don't think £35 is too bad, it will look right and the time spent fitting it will be a lot less than moving the switch or fitting a bodged one. If you are going to sell at some stage in the future, it will put some people off. After all, you were thinking about fitting a 5 speed, that would have cost you anything between £100-200 in bits. If money is so tight, why not just live with it as a 4 speed?

It's not just a 'classic' or 'original' thing, my reasoning does have sound financial sense. £35 for the switch against a messy bodge job might mean the difference between selling the camper or not when the time comes, not everybody is handy with a screwdriver, and some might think "if that's what the gearstick looks like, what are the bits I can't see like?". Also, campers tend to go to ordinary types who don't want the tinkering thing, they just want a no-bother van that sits about and is there ready to use whenever they jump in it for a weekend away.

If this was an ordinary work van, I would say go for it, as most won't mind an odd switch if it works. Work vans are business so price matters and buyers will put up with many more imperfections if the price is right.
