ABS Pump bleeding

I need to bleed the air out of the abs pump, but there a few complications.
Previous owner has replaced the PCM and did not program in the VIN. When I connect Forscan with extended license it comes back as a Ford Focus 1.8 petrol and in service procedure it does list brake bleeding.

Is there any way of actuating the pump manually

Obviously the wrong PCM has been fitted...they need to be coded in using the original vehicle's "As- Built" files. Not an easy task these days.

No, there is no way to manually activate the ABS pump without powering up the pump actuator itself. I've never actually tried to do that.

Maybe the Ford Focus the PCM was removed from didn't have ABS.??

Fuses 13 & 21 in the engine bay fuse box ring a bell..

Does the van actually run with a PCM from a 1.8 petrol focus in it..??

Sorry to hijack this but when doing an abs bleed with forscan/ids do you need to go around opening and closing bleed nipples?

well yes the air or dirty fluid, has to come out somewhere .

I've heard though you can fool the ABS (not tried it myself) and not need to use forscan etc

The idea is to have "eezibleed" set up and pressured up

Have someone jab the pedal with the engine running ..as you wait at the other end, opening and bleeding .

The main problem with not activating the ABS module during bleeding is that any air or old fluid will not be expelled from the ABS pump unless it is activated.....pressure bleeding the normal way is fine but there's always a small amount of old fluid left behind in the system.

I bled mine the normal way when I first got my van and thought nothing of it until I heard about the IDS/Forscan bleed....I then did a proper "ABS" bleed using Forscan and quite a bit of old dirty fluid came out...even after I had bled the system previously with fresh fluid.

Just be aware though...it will use a silly amount of brake fluid.

Brilliant thanks for the confirmation, I wasn’t sure if it forced any air back up, I’m used to bleeding brakes with my vacuum pump and not got involved with this computer bleeding thingamajig, just trying to sort any little problem before the mot next week (if I get a day off that is) just to check I set the procedure running then go around each nipple in turn or do I need to pause/restart the computer on each wheel?

Forscan will walk you through the procedure, it's pretty simple.

I have contacted Foxwell to see if I can add abs bleeding to my Nt644 Pro. I have also bought a Sealy pressure brake bleeder.
Will let you know how I get on.

In regards to the PCM the bus drives fine, when I get some spare time I will get it programmed properly or replaced with a used correct one, and then the forscan software should work.

Wow...that Foxwell is an expensive bit of kit.....Forscan is free to download and is very good and very user friendly. Less than 20 quid for the ELM-327 and you'll be golden.

I agree but I have more than one vehicle and it was a birthday present to myself, what sold me was the free lifetime updates.
Also with the wrong PCM in the bus I have some doubts as to the data I am seeing with the forscan,
I have been looking at some semi professional tools but they start at £10000, bit hard to justify that though.

Don't know about professional, the eezibleed is aimed at DIY'ers, yet i found it one of the most effective gizmos i have . also cheap to buy (about £20) , although i only paid £1 from car boot sale 25 years ago...nothing to bust , nothing to wear out ..good tool 5 out of 5

i bought and tried a couple of months back ..although they work (the vacuum pull is weak) 2 out of 5

..They are not as good as the eezibleed as that uses the pressure from your spare tyre...having tested it - i packed the tool away resorted back to eezibleed
