Fuel leak fix

Postby ranso73 » Tue May 06, 2025 5:14 pm

Hello,

I have a fuel leak that was repaired by the RAC so I could continue my journey. It seemed to be coming from the injector to pipe fitting. The grey zip tie was to keep the pipe onto the injector.

What courses did f action to repair it properly do I have?

we cant answer many questions here without detail

Year model engine size ...PLEASE REFRAIN FROM ASKING QUESTIONS IF YOU CANT GIVE THE DETAILS

Think this is what you need . i may be wrong as ...i just put in 2.2 transit and no date or model; to get this result

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/363043511846?

Although i cant quite see where its leaking, from only see that the RAC man has put a cable tie on it to make it tighter

if these don't fix it you'll have to buy all four which come with the fuel return pipe

search

transit 2.2 leak off
and then figure out from the results if its suitable for year, model, engine size of your van.

There could be other reasons like the return pipe has a kink in it ..making excess back pressure

Thanks for the reply.

My apologies to all for not including those details.

It’s a 2015 Custom 290 Eco-Tech 2.2 TDCi.

The problem comes from the connector fitting to the injector. I imagine it to be like a leaky tap, it’s not the tap nor the pipe but the rubber seal.

Do you mean those green coloured fittings and with the rubber pipes?

BTW ..the place where i get the part numbers from has wrongly part numbered the part ...as when i put the number into ebay ..it comes up with injector metal seals that are not the right parts in the parts diagrams

so above is as close an answer that i can give.

That’s them, it seems that the one with the zip tie fails to maintain the secure seal from the pipe to the injector. TBH, I would rather buy the part to replace the main component at fault.

You can see in this picture "circled" the problem o-ring.

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/oj8AAOSw ... l1600.webp

You can also see you have a choice ..buy just the o-rings or the whole lot.

Cant give you a part number for the o-rings through -- because as explained above .

You are reliant on someone else here, confirming that the link i gave for the o-rings is correct (note its a mk7 ) same engine.

Thank you for the link.

Could the mechanism that keeps the pipe into the ground injector fail? And if it fails could it be ‘forced’ out of the injector housing under pressure from the fuel demands of the engine?

Appreciate your efforts.

Well everything is 10 years old, the plastic bits become brittle, so you have to consider this ..the whole thing pictured, is under £20 on ebay

Remember to tick box .."uk only" or you may be waiting weeks from china, do your research on the brands and country of origin.

So I cleaned up the area and noticed that there was some PTFE looking tape on the engine. In the photo it’s on the right hand. Then I ran the engine and think that fuel is coming out of that part too.

So what’s it called and can it be replaced by a trainee novice?

Thanks.
