why dont it run on 4 ?

Postby bazw » Tue Feb 14, 2006 6:05 pm

well after getting the frankensprinter to run and thinking this is not going to pull the skin off a rice pudding (the call of its alive may be a bit early ,im a petrol head not an oil burner so this is first time playing with the things )
i now have a cooling system on it and could let it warm up a bit
BUT as it burns the oil off the exhaust i see its only running on 2 pots
so cracked the injecters 1 @ a time and 1 and 3 do nothing when i bleed them , and 2 and 4 cause it to hunt i checked the valve order and it runs 1243 so thats normal di/banana , the questions are
1 why is it only firing on 2 ,injector lines run in the right order to
2 does it matter if the cold start solinoid is not working as i get much better revs when i twist the arm for that and not just the throttle one ?
i think this is its last chance before i rip the nana out and look for a petrol engine

well i cant think of any other things to try now , have spent the day swopping injectors and they all work as it still runs on 2 and 4 , does this mean i have a duff pump or duff compression on 1 and 3 ? any ideas folks

this thing gets 1 more day of my time then its out and becomes a boat mooring point in the local river

have not read the rest of your corespondence on the forum, but have you checked tapped clearance i had a similar problem and it turned out to be tight tappets when engine heated up to working temp.2 valves were slightly open so it looked as if it was only firing in 2.Checked valve clearance when cold and everything looked normal

I wasn't really been rude, but sarcastic. However I can't help noticing how few replies there has been about the sphincter. After all I have a 351 Cleveland in a LWB but it doesn't make it an econoline..... It's still a transit, and Ashley has a Chevvy engine in his, but it's still a transit.

the best guess i have now is i have low compression on 2 cylinders and it will not fire off on them
will have to see if i can beg steel or borrow a compression tester before i pull the head and check the valves for burnt or pitted seats
i dont think its the rings as there is no great pressure from the oil filler to make me think its blow bye on the rings

fred i have always thought you were joking so hope were still cool ,and i have noticed some lake of replys to questions to but put that down to the folks who dont like hybrids

btw the conversion is a case of redrilling the front mounts 1" forward to take the ford bushes and a bracket to change the box carrier from 1 hole to 2 for the mt75 box put a dent in the tool box to clear the exhaust then swop the flange on the prop you would think they were made for each other
so if the di ever becomes rare the merc ones will go in a tranny easy
including the 5 cylinder turbos

luke just in case what rover engine are you using and what box ?
