engine swap

Postby hodgson4711 » Sat Feb 18, 2006 9:17 pm

hi i have just bought a 2.5 diesel engine out of a K reg. mk3 transit and i intend to fit it into my 1981 mk2 camper. it came complete with exhaust system plus radiator and gearbox (incl. gearbox crossmember). would i have any major problems in fitting it myself or should i hunt around for a garage to fit it for me. regards dave

depends on how confident you are Di's were fitted to mk2's from the factory so its not major surgery!! your front mounts should drop in, you will need to alter the prop - but a propshaft specialist will do that! and the box will be an MT75 so you will need to mod the floor for the gearstick!

why not start it yourself and if you get stuck get a pro in  that way it should cost less as you will have done most of the work!!! :D

What year did they start fitting the MT75 to the Di as some Mk3 had the overdrive box.

Well if they are both the same then I would say that it's a straight swap!

yep :!: if the boxes are the same its strait swap - just check cos the ealier one(89) might be a type 9 reverse near 1st! - best one is the mt75 reverse near 5th :D
