Don't panic. Nothing wrong with Bobbie the Builder's tipper stuff. Just wanted to know if there is something I should be doing re maintanence on the tipping gear. Never had one before and won't be using it much so I don't want things going wrong through lack of use. Anybody got experience of this? I have no idea what make of tipping/hydraulic gear it is, and it was retro fitted in 1989 brand new. It goes up and stays up fien, comes down smoothly and silently and I want it to stay that way!

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Thanks Luke, from the look of her (for a tipper), she didn't have that much use anyway, but it won't hurt to to the up/down thing as you say once in a fortnight. As it's electric (pump motor) I will keeping an eye on the battery too, though that looks like new too.
100ps, do you have a tipping trailer then?

You could probably reseal the ram for about £20, well you would probably be better paying about £45 and getting someone to reseal it for you as you might want it to work again afterwards!

HP hydraulics in Fareham will do a new rod quite cheap.

How will I tell that there is enough oil in the hydraulics? Is it just a case of waiting to see if the gear doesn't work well, or is there some kind of gauge? I haven't looked for one, as yet.

Good question! I will have to have a look and get back to you! Will it be near the tipper pump?

There are so many different types Fred, the easiest thing to do is have a look.
