LWB Mini-bus with a 2.5D (no turbo), 1994 approx 1380000 miles - if it has to slow on an uphill stretch or the stretch is too long in some cases we have to drop a gear or two to get it up there! Got artics passing us sometimes!

Is this normal-ish and nothing to get too cocerned about or is it the first signs of the engine going out to graze?

How many people and how much gear did you have in the back?

It's usually 4-6 people and the gear is a couple of amps and a drumkit, plus some luggage at the most.
When there's just a couple of people it is slightly better but not brilliant.

Sounds like a fully loaded Mk2 luton! It would be normal for me, but it does sound a bit slow for a minibus.

and you've got the nerve to complain about a tired engine :lol:

Seriously . . time to check all the consumables.....fuel filter, timing belt, fan belt and oil filter then the valve clearances, dragging brakes etc etc anything you can think of that can / will slow the van down.

Start with the easiest things first . . .then condemn it to death :lol:

normally i'd say just a normal slow transit but

when it has a full tank of diesel is the performance any better than with 1/4 tank :?:

I'd say yes, but haven't really monitored it to any great extent.

that could (but not necessarly) be a problem with the diesel pump

- but like teamster says check the fuel filter etc. 1st! pump would be last resort!!!

Your problem sounds exactly the same as mine, i've just had a recon engine, and even the slightest incline, i was having to drop down, pain to start first thing,gutless on straights, took van back to scrappy, and all he's done is adjust mixture screw, don't know if it will help your problem, but my van now pulls like a train on inclines, and flies on straights, hope this might help

just one more thing :lol:

being a minibus it might have a 4.63 diff that wont help at all on big hills

i have noticed a lot of minbusses come flying past me on the flat only for me to fly past them on the slightest of inclines

Thanks - so going to check out the fuel filter then the screw adjustment and keep the fingers crossed.
