Engine change querie?

Currently, I've a '96 transit 80 with the 70bhp Di unit fitted. As the van is used mainly for towing, a wee bit more grunt would be nice.

I've been offered an engine from '96 lwb mini-bus which I believe is a 90bhp unit (banana engine with twin exhaust down-pipe).

Can this engine be fitted straight into my '96 Tranny 80?

What changes are required?

that'll go straight in easily enough - you'll need the exhaust downpipe as well

is it a turbo :?: non turbo bananas were 76ps :!:

Thanks for the reply guys....

Wasn't there a 'high output' banana engine with 90bhp?

I thought the single downpipe engines were 76, and the twin downpipe were 90, but I'm no expert!

Can anyone confirm?

well the turbo's start at 85ps so i dont think you can get a 90ps with out a turbo :(

92-94 bananas were 80 i think you will find :?
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Smiley Transits were 70PS/76PS normal and 85PS/100PS (and rare 115PS)Turbo :wink:

There wasn't a 92-94 Banana, that was brought in on the Mk5.

the banana type inlet came in with the first of the new generations in '92 - put pushrods in a J reg minibus on friday (usual broken cam belt game) - thought they were all 76PS

thats what i thought :? i have seen a few with the banana inlet couldnt all be engine swaps?? :? :lol:

The pre '95 models didn't have a heavy emmissions regulation so ran at 80PS. Same engine in a smiley became 76PS :( Emmissions :roll:
