Are the mirrors any good? We put sherpa long arm mirrors on the lutons. Early ones by preferance.

yeah his got some im trying to get him to sign up for the forum as he runs and repairs a fleet of 1 ldv , 1 iveco , and 6 transits ( and allways fixing them due to the shite drivers that use them )

i think he will be a good asset to this site!

in a word yes , what we told to do to ours was remove the tin seal on top of the pump very carefully with a thin bladed srewdriver, then undo the locknut and wind in the torx headed screw about 1- 1 1/2 turns , do the lock nut back up and take for a test drive with some weight on , if it smokes too much wind the screw out again about 1/2 a turn , repeat this until you get a sensible amout of smoke out of the xhaust , we went 2 turns and very little smoke but each one is different , once you are happy replace the seal carefully and spray the area with some WD-40 so some dirt sticks to it
this method is only for veichles used off road of course

I did this on my last transit di a couple of years ago, it does work, and the van is still running fine for its current owner.

I am thinking of off roading with one or two of our XLWB lutons (you know you will all be doing it next year, it's a new craze you know.......). Does this 'tuning' make any difference to the MPG?

Yes, the more turns the more fuel (the one i did, i first turned the opposite direction 1 1/2 turns before going to billing two years ago, took forever to get up hill at 25 - 30 mph max but used about £7-£8 in diesel to get there (filled the tank on way there and didnt have to fill it again for 2 weeks)(only local driving though)
once you get up to speed it cruised ok at 65-70 but 0 - 60 in 15 minuets :D
had to re adjust it after local yobs on pushbike kept insulting me while they were overtaking :D

Altering the pump settings?.Go a bit steady or you might get to see what the pistons look like as they come out the side of the block.Rev an old worn diesel too high and (especially if its running hot) it can start running on its own oil,it will then run faster and faster until it eventually blows itself to smithereens.

altering pump settings

Postby MRspivvy » Thu Jul 28, 2005 4:36 pm

in my case having the knowledge is probably only academic, I have a 94 transit 80 2.5di with pencil injectors and the lucas cav pump and I am blowed if I can see any way to adjust it.

this adjustment should not allow the engine to rev any higher to how it was originally set but can cause excessive smoke from exhaust or compleate lack of power
