Thanks Luke and MrM for your replies.

I gotta say..... maybe I haven't bled them right. In my Haynes manual it just says to push the hand pump slowly for 20-30 times slowly. Is this the right way to bleed the system?

Also, how does the engine make an ignition?

As I mentioned earlier I am not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to diesel engines.

Bleeding a Di.

Make sure the filter is fuel with clean diesel.
Then get somemone to turn it over while you crack the injector pipes one at a time until you get a decent squirt of diesel with no bubbles in it.

A diesel engine works by compression ignition

Basically as the engine turns it only draws in air. next it compresses it 20:1 (1/20th of its original mass) this generates a lot of heat. then the injector fires spraying a fine mist of diesel into the combustion chamber of the piston crown (direct injetion) this then ignites and forces the piston down

Indirect is slightly different

To bleed. crack of the injector pipes and crank it over. when you got diesel there tighten them beck up and it should start

All a diesel needs is air fuel and compression. this is why diesels can run under water as long as the intake is above the water :D

Well it looks like the fuel pipes are the wrong way around. I dropped the tank and started to change them over when I pulled on of the connecting ends of the fuel pipe..... and do you think I can get it back on, can I heck!!! got covered in fuel and not a happy bunny at the moment. Patience is wearing a bit thin now.

Anyway, that's enough for today, I gotta go drive a limo later. Back to the van on monday. If anyone has any ideas how I can get the pipe back on please let me know.

I suppose I could heat the tube up in some hot water to make it a bti pliable first.

OK, enough is enough. I cant' get this sorted. SO the van is now up for sale in the sale section.

If no interest then it's gonna be scrapped. Thanks to everyone that has given me advice. I just have not got the time, money or interest in fixing it. I'll stick to what I know and leave the vehicle repairs to the pros.
