Thanks for that.

I looked again last night and do have code 32. I guess I hadn't watched the blinking for long enough previously.

I saw from another post on here that this might be an indication that the Rim module on the pump is faulty or has lost power. I'll have another look at its connectors / wiring etc. but is there anything else I can do ?

EPIC don't have a RIM module.

First thing to check is that there is power to the socket and if there is check (replace with new) the brown relay in the fuse box.

Hi and thanks.

I had already swapped the Power hold relay, for a new one and checked its connections for power.

Over the w/e I re-checked all the connections,
Took out the DCU and although the exterior was a bit crusty, the connections and the circuit boards all looked fine. No corrosion. Pin 20 has power.
Checked the immobiliser connections. Again all fine.

The connections in the plug at the back of the pump all look fine. Dry and no corrosion.

I did however find that the pump itself is making a high pitched whine when the ignition is on. I took out the bolts holding the cover so that was loose but the wiring plug still attached. The whine varied with movement of the plug, but not when the cover was bolted up and fixed. I'm wondering if there could be an issue with the wiring inside the cover. Is the whine normal ? Not heard it before.

The redlight is still flashing code 32 which my epic manual says "indicates a wiring fault in the pats circuitry or faulty Pats module." No further help or wiring diag. as it says take to LDV....

Its possible.

I have just remembered.... convoys had and issue with the ECU location, allowing water ingress and killing them.

This would cause a 32 code too....

Yup, a very common problem caused by leaky windscreen rubbers :(

Certainly had plenty of leaks ! although as I said the interior of the DCU looked ok, however I couldn't separate the circuit boards without risking damage so there may be issues I couldn't see.

Any idea on the high pitched whine from the pump itself ? I might be able to put up a video of it if I can reduce the file size. To be clear it is with ignition on but obviously the engine not running. Also with the electric lift pump running or not running.

I'll look again at the pump wiring plug wires under the cover, but if it is the DCU, then that is probably the end of the van then. I found a couple of refurbed Bosch pumps but the cost is too high to be viable and I don't really want to buy an unknown "worked fine when I took it off 3 years ago" one which would be more of a risk.

If that really is it, many thanks to all for the help and info.

Thats normal.

If it is the DCU it can be sorted by replacement - its not the end of the world.

OK interesting. I'll see if any of the ECU repairers can test it and repair if necessary. I don't really want to buy another one of unknown heritage without being sure it is actually the DCU that is faulty.

Just a thought. I have a spare steering column, with lock, transponder and key I bought years ago "in case". Is there any point in trying this or would the DCU or immobiliser need coding ?

Thanks again.

Immob and DCU need coding together.

If you are lucky you can find an ECU thats not immobilised (I think I still have a few used - I definately have a brand new one that can be coded without immob - but I really want to save that for when I don't have a used that will work!)

Hi, Sorry not to come back to you. Been away with clients.

I have found and spoken to a company in Swansea who can still test and repair these DCUs. I'm going to get them to test it and then at least will know if the DCU is actually the issue. Their turn-around time is 2-3 days.

Thanks for the suggestion you may have a spare non immobiliser DCU. Depending on how mine comes back I may well take you up on that. I'll let you know what happens.

Hi MinorMatt. I have now had the DCU back after a long delay, but I'm told no fault found. Having checked everything else, I think therefore it is probably an issue with the immobiliser . I sent you a PM on Friday, but it is still in my outbox so I assume in common with other forums that means you haven't seen it yet. You may be away but I just wanted to make sure it hadn't gone astray. Thanks.

Hi all,

Just a thankyou to all those who tried to help. The van is now running again thanks to MinorMatt whose help and advice went above and beyond. The culprit turned out to be the immobiliser and thanks to Matt I now have a non immobilised DCU. Plugged it in and it started right up.

What a great forum !
