I've only had a look at the transit mk8 manual ..ass that's all i have for 2.2

if anything wrong with the core

It shows whole dash being removed with the ac system and steering column still bolted to it .. it then being bolted to an engine type stand to work on it to remove whole box to get at evaporator

while i was there

I did notice it had:

Ambient air temperature sensor in the front bumper that it's claiming to be part of the system, so you better make sure that is reading right whilst in forscan

And if you have rear climate control with another evaporator and another blower fan .. that just adds another level to the diagnoses.

How the hell are you supposed to get to the connector on the compressor to test it. The bloody thing is on top of the compressor with no access from the top and very limited access from underneath.It blows my mind just how difficult some simple task are perform. I am beginning to hate this van. Everything is hard work.

I somehow managed to get to the wires, and crimped longer wires to them so that I could test the voltages and continuity to the compressor from the top of the engine rather than underneath.

My compressor was shot,but I couldn't see any way to remove it, so asked my garage to do it. I would have loved to watch how it was done!

That was my thought too, get the plug off and extend the wires to make it easier for testing, but I can't seem to be able to press the tab on the plug to release it. Lying under the van limits how much you can get your hand and arm in a position to release it Might be a different story with it over a pit.

sometimes these tab release things get full of dirt .. and will not release .. try squirting wd40 on it or brake cleaner .. see if it rinses dirt out.

Yeah I'll give that a go now I have had a day away from it. Yesterday I just couldn't be arsed with it anymore.

Right, managed to get the plug off the compressor, connected a multimeter meter to and got 14 volts to it with the Aircon button pressed.So I guess the compressor is the problem. I wiggled the plug while connected hoping it just might be a bad connection but it wasn't.

Just been looking at compressor's on the net and looking at photos it appears that there is a another electric plug at the back of the compressor. That's got me wondering what is that one for. More investigation needed

so now you have to swap that .. and get it gassed up by someone .. the type of gas used in the last 10 years is very expensive .. you'll be finding out if the cheap gas or the expensive .. make sure you swap out the schrader valve cores at the same time.

It uses r134, the older and cheaper refrigerant. The bloke who regassed my van last week,said the newer more expensive stuff is crap towards the older r134 refrigerant.

I'm going to test the resistance of the coil windings, if I can get the multi meter probes on the compressor plug that is, so it will give me a idea just how f*** it is. If I had better access, I would take the clutch and coil out of it to see if I could find the problem, but as I've said before everything is a nightmare to get to.
