Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy..........thanks alot guys........all fixed and squeek free. .....took me a while to realise i had to pull the release arm forward to let the bearing spin round a bit but its lovely now.

thanks very much for all your advice.......

Well that didnt take long for another problem to appear..lol....

sorted the squeeky noise , but now theres a juddering when i engage the clutch.
Its worse when i go down the gearbox when moving and i feed the clutch in. I've come to the conclusion that the mechanic deliberately set the release bearing on the pee so to mask the vibration.
The bearing assembly doesnt look brand new so i'll be paying the bloke a visit(complete with rotweiller).
I could be wrong but maybe the bearing is shot or perhaps the release arm itself is worn causing the bearing to vibrate when making contact with the clutch plate.
Is there a certain way round the bearing should sit in the arm? , i tried it all ways and it didnt look like it had a location pin on it.

Any i deas chaps??................sorry to be a pain again

juddering clutch

Postby escort » Mon Dec 12, 2005 9:19 pm

hi
clutch judder can be a few things like a contaminated friction plate or a warped friction plate or a loose preasure plate etc
are you sure your mechanic has fitted a new 3 piece clutch ie release bearing friction plate and preasure plate?
cheers

Cant be hundred percent sure george, but i'll find out tomorrow(while he's dangling from his car lift)..lol

I definately saw the new clutch, and he replaced the release arm with one he had knocking around in the garage , as the old release arm was knackered.( the reason i origianly took the van in to his shop cos the clutch was juddering and i couldnt get it into gear).
i just know i'm gonna end up having a barney and have to replace the whole lot grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The clutch should centralise once the engine is started, shouldn't it ?

Sounds like oil on the clutch plate to me.... Leaking flywheel oil seal maybe ???????

Again, quite common on these. I replaced mine when doing the clutch recently.

Alternatively, maybe it's just taking time to bed-in. Ok, unlikely, but if the flywheel was grooved or well worn, it can take the plate a while to 'wear' to the same shape.

unfortunately, more likely to be oil on the plate though :(

not if it was done correctly, the clutch should be centralised before tightening the clutch cover

Exactly, but if it's not aligned, the box & engine won't engage anyway, and should it be out slightly, the the gearbox input shaft won't be long in centralising it with a little help of 4000rpm!

Saw the bloke at the garage today.
He says she replaced the release bearing and the release arm (second hand one) when he done the clutch, so back to square one i suppose.................i'm gonna drive it around like it is for the mean time and see what develops, but its weird that after moving the release bearing round to stop the squeeking noise that its started doing this juddering thing.
If there were oil on the clutch or flywheel would it have been juddering before i turned the bearing round?

Transits :::: there more of a mystery than women i swear...lol

thanks
