how do you define a few drops?
the filter has a water trap which will hold around 100ml of water before it becomes a problem. The trap is then a scheduled service item.....why the water is drained away.

I'd suggest that a transit with a repair bill for flushing water out was that much, the dealer is shafting you, or there is a serious amount of water in the diesel.

book time for R+I fuel tank is 1hour and a filter is sub £20,

im not joking we were heading down the m4 when the engine cut out got towed to a garage at a service area(on a sunday as well) turned out to be a very small amount of water had got up into the fuel lines and garage recommended flushing the whole lot out didnt waste much diesel anyway as it was coming onto the red when this happened anyway werent off the road for more 1hr1/2 but most of the £350 was to be recovered  anyway we dont let it run past 1/4 of a tank now all has been ok since

had this problem on the 2.4 can be the timing chain tensioner .lots of slack between the cams and the diesel pump timng is out when first started then is ok once the oil pressure is up .the tensoiner has been modified and normally replace the guides as well can be quite pricey if its out of warrenty

While the chain tensioner is a possibility, i'd doubt it because the guy hasn't mentioned increased engine noise, or power loss.

As i'm sure your aware TT, when the chain tensioner fails completely it allows the inlet cam to jump approx 3 teeth and crackes the cam shaft upper bearing frame. Before that happens though the engine will sound very advanced...a diesel crack.
quite often DTC's P0174 and P1564 are stored too.

We still seem to be waitng for vehicle details, it might well be a calibration issue, there have been lots of software updates for EEC V related to undershooting to stop since 02.

Here is an update.
There is a broken window seal somewhere that causes some rain water to run down the inside of the bonnet and drip onto the injector heads.

When it rains I have to soak up that gathered water as it will cause the engine to cut out. As long as I do this the engine does not cut out.
I checked there are no bared wires, the fuel filter is fine and I can see no other causes.

It is booked into the ford service centre in walthamstow on monday.
However, I need to keep the van on the road as getting a loaner is a pain in the arse. As I have to swap the stock from my van into the loaner and then back again afterward.
Not only that, Ford take ages to fix anything.

So now I need to find a cover for the injector heads. That will stop water getting into the system.
I know one exists because there are a couple of screw holes on top of the engine that I hope are for a cover.

I do realise that any water that has already entered the fuel system will cause a problem in the future, but that is tomorrow .

Thank you everyone for your imput and help. I will keep you posted with what happens.

Cheers

There is a special hose repair tape that only seals to itself, you can get it from motor factors, but it doesn't like diesel (not an issue as you don't have a leak), maybe if you wrap the injector pipes in it it will keep the water out?

Like Nighthawk says it wont be water getting in the diesel system from the injectors or fuel lines because if that could happen diesel would get out!

And the tape you are thinking of Fred is amalgimating tape, good stuff but probably not for what you're thinking.

Yeah that's the stuff, we use it to keep the mirror glass in, cos it's not a sticky tape and doesn't suffer out in the weather!

Great stuff for doing repairs on battery cable and waterproof repairs on cable connections!

Another Update

Well, well, well, water comes from a well... And water dripping onto to injectors was NOT the problem after all .

Today there was no rain and it still conked out. RAC come again in record time and drained the fuel filter of a mix of deasel and water. Now it is fine.

The RAC said that water on the injector heads wouldn't cause the problem as there are no electrical circuits there. So much for the previous RAC man.

Gemini(transit addict) was right as were a few others.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful comments. Cheers
