How did you get the cable from the socket routed into the light area?

There's a drain hole in the bottom of the panel, if you take the rear light out and look down the hole where the light was you can see it at the bottom.

That's right, I may post a "How to..." on towbar fitting. It is really not that difficult, but I have taken loads of pics including the drain hole!

DOH!!!! my 98 Mk5 doesn't have any drain holes!!! :( and it looks a right job to get the cable in.....

Were the panels join at the bottom they are not welded or anything so all you need to do is pry the panels apart and poke the cable through.

Thanks... I've got it in now.. Had to drill from the bottom as it was sealed..

PS Put the bouncing chest back on I'm missing her!! :twisted:

On the subject of towbar wiring, is there a standard colour code for the spliit charger, I want the wire that does the battery on caravan.

you will need to run a wire from the battery through a fuse and a relay that is switched by the alternator warning light signal,
for the caravan battery charging circuit

I know that bit, but I already have a split charger fitted, and want the colour for the charger.
Reason is I am fitting an independant battery in the back of the van, to feed inverter and lights for camping, and I dont really want to run wires all through if already there. Pin number on the socket would do, I can trace it back then

ahh you mean you already have a 12s caravan socket and want to use the charging circuit from that for the extra rear battery?
colour code and pin numbers for the 12S socket is here
