i have thought about possibility of overdrive, but never seem to have the time to investigate. i would have thought altering the prop would be the biggest expense for this. so may not be worth the agro

have it admit, take the ratio the other way and then fit the o/d box, sounds like the best of both worlds to me .... if you can get a decent o/d box that is, and mod the prop to fit ... lot of work, but i guess it depends how bad you want it.

bigger wheels is not as silly as it sounds, youve got 15" ones on that high-cube right ? ... well what about some of the later 16" ones ? ... or did they only fit those to the single wheeled vairants ?

You could always try bigger tyres! You don't have to go for bigger wheels! I'm running 225\70r15!

will get a qoute for some bigger tyres and see :) at the mo i am getting kuhmo for £28 each and the 16" kumho i can get for £33 so if its near that mark i will go the tyre route if not i will try the 16" rims. anyone know where to go to get the speedo recalibrated after something like this as it will be a fair bit out :(

225/70 r15  thats what single wheel hi cubes run on bet it handles well

I have a magazine article with an Escort Mk1, 4.5 litre rover, and a generous dollop of laughing gas. He uses an o/d box off a Jag, hung on angle iron crossmember, and handles about 400 bhp no problem. His biggest problem was the length under car, and angles of UJs. That obviously wouldn't be a problem in a tranny.
Gearbox to o/d input adaptor made to suit, propshaft about £120.
Voila 10 effective gears, and better economy
Any good?

It's not the wheel size it's the tyre size that matters! My 15's with the big tyres fill more of the arch than the 17 with low profile tyres!
