good luck with it

It's through them, I've been dealing with

I also offered them to carry out a localised repair so that they didn't have to change the whole door aperture (up to the roof and B pillar inc.) and as I've compromised my side, I was hoping that they would do likewise  NOT :!:

at one time they used to bend over backwards - how times change :(

I know they'd rather I buy a new one  And having waited patiently for their mk6 auto to become available, I have to say I was very disapointed with it's durashit gearbox :!:

Hence I went back to a mk5 :!:

Yeah :!: As a matter of fact I did :!:
76PS engine (so that's Lucass out of the equation) Works like the mk6 auto but you stir the cogs yourself which has an advantage in so far as you change when you want :D

Clutch judder evident :( and would still roll on hills/makes parking in small spaces difficult. :(

good luck with your chasing of this but i think you'll just hit the same brickwall, there is only a couple of ways i know to stop this rot, and that is either waxoyl, or expanding foam, both of these have to be done fairly early though, one works by eradicating water and moisture and stopping it attacking the metal my effectively coating it in oil whereas the principle behind the other is to fill the area completely, stick like sh*t to a blanket and remove moisture as it cures .... leaving no where for air, thus no condensation or water.

once they have rotted in this area, my advice is chop it all out, but redesign the mounting along the edge so that you dont have a "twin skinned" section ..... they did not have problems with front wheel arches rotting until they redesigned this area, only problems on earlier front wings were where the door post ran close and and the gap could get blocked with crap causing the same "twin skinned" affect

Waxoyl
When I first bought the van this was the first area treated :!: took the front mudguards off, shuved the flexi hose right up the hole revealed by the mudguard removed, and gave it a good spray (obviously I couldn't see up there)
so either I didn't do a good job or the rust was already there :(
Remember I had a '96 van and therefore knew where the weakspots were

Expanding Foam :!: :?: :?:
Elseware (when discussing sound deadening insulation in difficult to reach/awkward areas(cables in the way etc...))It was noted that this stuff helps rot your steal as it absorbes and retains moisture, can shrink etc...so this was out of the question :!: Please give any further views on this foamy stuff  Is there a particular type/brand to use/avoid :?:

The regular pressure-washing/steam-cleaning EVERYWHERE is the only REAL rust preventor....along with a bit of Dinitrol or Red Oxide perhaps (sees Waxoyl off!!)
