stand near a hill and you'll probably be able to write it down as he passes - sorry - - sometimes they are a bit sluggish up hills - check the cam and pump timing and give it a good service - can't do any harm

If it has the Bosch pump fitted it will most likely be the pump diaphragm sticking due to the qualities of low-sulpher fuel. There is a mod that can be done, though some smiley front's managed to slip through the net.

Your probably down to about 30-40 on steep hills and it probably struggles to get 60 on the flat? I'd take it to a diesel injection pump specialist and start from there. No doubt tweaking the pump has a similar effect, but like someone said to me a few weeks back on here 'it's not the root cause of the fault'..

We've got a trannie that struggles on hills, usually have to drop down to second, and on one hill by our shop, its first gear.

Reminds me of my first visit to Somerset? in the MK1 van I owned for about a month. Taking the very scenic route to Barnstaple / Devon, we encountered on something called Porlock Hill...good god a hundred yards up and it was first gear all the way...4, 5 and sometimes 6 miles per hour . . so slowing down a little bit on inclines aint nowt to worry about :)

Sorry to be a bit off topic

Imagination....our only limit....
there's no such thing as a daft question.

Not quite that bad, it handles 70-80 pretty much ok, but 30-40 on a long steep climb isn't unusual, if there's a headwind especially.
It's most noticeable after slowing down from 70+ on an incline, just got to pull into the slow lane and wait!

It'll get worse believe me - mine wouldn't do 60 on a flat when I bought it! The injection specialist told me they deteriorate with time as opposed to mileage. I suspect the final drive ratios play a big part no matter what the condition of the pump diaphragm, though I always thought mini buses were 190s and had the same axle ratio as a LWB/SHT panel van?? Even with the pump fixed, EGR disconnected it won't do 80 on a flat.......70 is good enough for me though and it will do that on most inclines (up until head gasket change anyway - 45 for the next 1000 miles until bedded in :? )
