nope mk4's and mk5's 92-00
You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

tim wrote:The Bosch pump timing has to be advanced its not the same as the epic.5mm on the plunger does the job,if you want it in old money set up as epic and advance the pulley as far as it will go that should do.When i do a conversion i move up a notch on the timing belt so i have lots of travel to get it right .It should not be noisier than an epic ,but then again epics can be very noisy too.White smoke on startup is very common but have never seen it using blue injectors. Its more than likely your timing is out so without test equipment its trial and error mate, but one things for sure the epic system is disaster, its just a hole in the ground that you throw money in to

Please be patient with me Tim.

Set the timing as per official.(pegs in all the holes).

Then remove peg in pump pulley.

Then slacken the bolts that hold pulley to pump.

Turn the bolts (in relation to the pulley which remains static)anti-clockwise till they either stop in the elongnated slots or 5mm.

Is this right :?:

Thats it mate you got it in one.The 5mm on the plunger relates to the use of test equipment. You will have to fiddle around for a while until you get it right, but leave the viscous fan and the timing cover off until you have it right,Have you adjusted the mid range fuelling,i get best results at 10%

Now running quieter and much less smoke when cold, it just puffs a touch of black smoke on startup, a couple of seconds and its gone :D

Cheers
Alex

Oh yeh, nearly forgot, the solution was to advance the pump pulley as far as it would go on the slots from the "proper" timing position, as per Tim's instructions 8)

So thanks everyone for the assistance

It's pretty tempting.
From the sounds of things it's only a matter of time untill my Epic gives trouble.
Of course I could just go for a nice V8 instead...

No reply from ecosse :(

Probably depends on where you get the pump from, as this part has to be the bit that costs :?:

Sorry been buried in work

The pump cost me £120 off ebay, just reconditioned (with guarantee before anyone thinks I am mad  )
The throttle pedal with cable, was a fiver from the local scrappy and I got a new belt for 2 quid (yeh ebay again!)

The work cost me some bleeding knuckles and a flat battery before finding this forum, joining, doing a timing advance, adding some acetone and developing a big smile :D

I've now used 2 tankfulls of fuel since the conversion and am getting approx 60 miles more per tank than I was with the epic and little if any performance difference.
I reckon the conversion will have paid for itself in a few months and I still have the EPIC, pedal and ECU to sell

Hows that then :?:

Really?
So what sort of mpg are you getting now?
I'm getting between 300 and 400 miles to a tank depending if it's all round town or all motorway.
