Can a FWD tdci engine fit a rwd transit?

glad this sparked some debate...

personal reason is that I have a 90ps 2.4 that does 30 mpg unloaded and loaded. The mondeo 115 can get 60mpg and with 4 adults and luggage weighs as much as the van unloaded. Looking at touring websites people say they can get nearly 40mpg whilst towing a 1.5 tonne caravan. So it seems a more powerful and more fuel efficient engine than the bigger ' 2.4 tdi. Probably weighs less too and costs less also.

But how about drag? The Mondeo will have a much better shape for wind resistance. A Transit is largely a brick wall in comparison. That's where the efficiency is lost.

yes I appreciate the effects of drag and am not expecting the engine to perform the same in a transit.

however said mondeo 115 weighs 2tonne pulling a 1.5 tonne caravan and gets 38mpg... transit gets only 30mpg, same weight and there would be similar or less drag on a transit than a car towing a caravan.

mk2 1.8 petrol zetec 115ps

well thats not a zetec
mk3 mondeos have duratec petrols
and duratorque diesels.

zetec name on vehicles 2000 on are just trim levels.

Zetec were finished years ago.
they came out in 1993 i believe and were ahead of their time then.

probably cos of cost if you compare the price of a secondhand mondeo engine to a transit engine.

the zetec mk2 mondeos which were last fitted to, can be got for £50-£100-£150.

i meant the tdci, same engine.
