Maybe you should by a new type transit, Coming up M1 yesterday in my truck, Was passed in outside lane by a BMW M3 about 2inches off his back bumper was a Porshe Boxter and about 2 inches off his back bumper was a new transit Trying to pass em both made me smile

I have just been told of another way to improve power if you have the 70ps engine. apparently on the side of a pump is a whatchamacallit which you can unscrew and remover the doberry inside, which will have "A" stamped on it. if you replace it with one from a 90ps engine with "B" stamped on it this will advance the pump and increase fuel flow, if that makes any sense to anyone? I am going to try it anyway

I bought a 1999 100L, 2.5Di a few months ago. It was a total slow pig. Even thought that I'd horse in a turbo or some sort of animal engine But thanks to this site, I'm content for now.
I tweeked teh Fuel Pump. I lifted off the silver cover disc cap (15mm) on the fuel injector pump and turned the small adjuster screw CW 2 turns (Turned 1 CW first and then back again tjust to get good start pt).
I read some advise from the guru's on this site not to go more than 2 turns, so I didn't as con-rods out the sid eof the engine block don't look good.

Took her for a spin and what a difference, its like a totally new engine, not revving as high and I got her to 80mph easily the other day on the Motorway.
Fairly good acceleration also. Not sure what milage is like. if too heavy may drop a 1/2 turn back on pump.
I'm happy with it, just have to see how it handles with a 2ton boat behind again

I tried this, I loosened the lock bolt the tried to turn the torq headed screw but it wont budge either way! Bitch! I think I deffinately have the low ratio back axle as I can only hit 75, ggod for bombing round twisty a and b roads though. Any ideas where I can get a higher ratio diff? apprx price? and how easy is it to fit?

I didnt think they did axle ratios quite that low, it could be just that the pumps been screwed right in to stop it being thrashed. van hire companies did this as a matter of course. depending on what van you have (swb or lwb) I think you'd have to find a scrapper and take the axle off that. in my experience twin wheelers tend to have lower ratios due to having more weight to contend with and the highest one isnt that high.

2:5di 80/1988 tranny was fine yesterday,now it seems to run like poo.
stalls sometimes and sluggish with smoke out the back think it be grey blue.
won't rev till warm so going to try new fuel, filter then oil change see if this does the trick.
tranny is slow anyway but would like a bit more speed,also a 5 speed box is wanted.
any adeas would be great on this subject.

So... Is there some way to set up a way of having the screw for slower town driving with low fuel use & then alter it when you come to a motorway for more power - best of both! Also, why is this method 'for off-road only' ?

Its for "off road use" only because adjusting the pump buggers up the emmissions. when you give it some boot you tend to get black smoke out the pipe which will fail an mot

That's a good point, I dunno! When you find out let me know, we have a couple. One of them had to go to the specialist for air leaks and stuff, they also did the pump timing and she went like stink till a couple of years later I had to have the cam belt/tensioner changed, now she seems a bit slower. maybe I will pay the money and get the pump timing done again.
