Running on vege oil

first one ive seen but i cant say i like it
oil would not be in it very long so i would be surprised if temp goes up much at all

the water feed will be around 80 deg c as thats about what a diesel runs at , its going to go thorough there in a few seconds so you might add a few deg to the oil but not much , would have to be a fair bit longer to me to bring the temp up to any worth while difference (btw do you feed it from the heater pipes and if so do you feed it before or after the heater , before better after no good )

any one know if theres an auto rad with oil cooler for a tranny or one from another car that would work , they have a bigger pipe work inside and if the veg oil went through that it would get much better heat into it and would just need some extra pipe work to join it up

I have the heat exchanger pumped in with a Tee piece off the short hose elbow to the left of the thermostat housing and returns to the feed pipe underneath the water reservoir. The water hoses and heat exchanger feel hot to touch, so I assume this installation is ok. I have now also lagged all the pipework but the oil is still not getting hot enough.

Pick one with threads on all tappings, the thicker the unit, the better heat transfer.

I've bought myself a FPHE to try and get the oil hotter. Fitted it, lagged all the pipework. switched over to vege oil and the knocking/clicking from the IP has now gone, wahey! But now I still have the issue with loss of power, it will drive for 3-4 minutes and slowly die until the engine conks out. I'm running about a 60/40 WVO/diesel mix with a hint of unleaded (5%).

I bled the system by taking off one of the injector connections but the same problem arises, loss of power until engine dies. Any pointers please?!

(And thank you guys, I know it's meant for diesel but I'm always one for a challenge!)

Could it be air in the system somewhere? No offence (and this is not veg bashing) you have got a lot of pipework going on there, could be air getting in anywhere.

If its possible drain the vegoil mix from the tank, put in £10-£15 of diesel. If it runs off this then all the unions etc must be okay or it still wouldnt run.
I have another idea that you might or want to use. Buy a lift pump just to make sure it gets there okay and relieve some strain of the IP, buy a lucas cav filter mine has a glass bottom like this

old landy etc where ever you can source one. Use this as your filter. Cheap to change too (though messy) I bought 12 filters for £21 delivered. Take out the innards of your transit filter. Coil, weld, whatever your hot water piping around the filter and use this as a small resovoir of heated fuel, which will be your veg oil. This should get it hot enough for you I think.

Just to clarify I AM NOT against using alternative fuels, but they are not good for all engines in all situations. I do use my bio for the sake of saving money, no other reason. If I could afford I would put in diesel because these engines have been developed to run on diesel. Also STOP BUYING ALL THEY BLO*DY 145 PUMPS LET ME HAVE ONE!!!

THE veg oil must be heated to about 70 degrees, centigrade, that is. It then has more or less the same viscosity as diesel. Just an idea, but have you checked your thermostat. if it is stuck open, your engine will of course take ages to heat and therefore your heat exachanger will not work properly. Also, the injectors, if the spray pattern is not good whilst it will run on diesel, it will certainly not run on veg oil, the recommendations of both ATG and ELSBETT, the two most long established and well known makers of conversion kits for WVO and SVO both recommend the checking of the injectors before attempting to run on vegetable oil. The best way is the two tank system, where you start on diesel, and then switch to veg oil when the temp is correct in the heat exchanger. You then switch back to diesel, just five minutes or so before ending your journey to flush the injector pump and lines of veg oil. I personally, although it is difficult to diaganose a fault on the web, believe that the engine is starved of fuel on the SVO. Hope it helps if you have not by now solved the problem.
