right ok so 19's could be possible with a lower profile tyre ?

this is what i am thinking http://www.german-wheels.com/produkte/d ... eces=3-tlg

Theres nothing weird about stunner tyres, they are without doubt the best value tyre on the road! Italian design and build, superb in the wet or dry, if I could get commercial stunner I would have them on my van..

If you want to know what size tyres will make a difference to your van have a play around with this.. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

By altering the profile of the tyre you can gain a fair amount of top end(as MrMPuK says).

He uses an o/d box off a Jag, hung on angle iron crossmember, and handles about 400 bhp no problem. His biggest problem was the length under car, and angles of UJs. That obviously wouldn't be a problem in a tranny.
Gearbox to o/d input adaptor made to suit, propshaft about £120.
Voila 10 effective gears, and better economy
Any good?

Yes exactly what I had in mind. :)
Only problem I can see (other than the actual mechanics of fitting it :P) is that the speedo would be out.

will get a qoute for some bigger tyres and see :) at the mo i am getting kuhmo for £28 each and the 16" kumho i can get for £33 so if its near that mark i will go the tyre route if not i will try the 16" rims. anyone know where to go to get the speedo recalibrated after something like this as it will be a fair bit out :(

225/70 r15  thats what single wheel hi cubes run on bet it handles well

Mate i have 16" rims on mine and now fitted with 215 65 16 continental vancos , anything bigger you will have to put a very low profile tyre on , its the width of the wheel arch that may be the prob have a look at the pic

depends how good/tidy you want it, but one option is to make new a gauge label for the speedo, leaving the original mph markings that are correct in the right place, but remove the kph markings and then stick it on a rolling road and re-mark the kph side of the gauge as "o/d mph" and mark it up at suitable points whilst on the rolling road :)

for a jag od box you need to look for series 1 and 2 xj6 or daimler sov (maybe the 420g as well )
i had 1 on a daimler series 2 from 1973 ish , it was about the last year i have seen 1 on ,they will take the power but they are a pig to get bits for as they are a moss box the laycock OD bit just bolts on to the back end so if you get 1 with a bit of work it will go onto any box

Speedo

Postby Terry » Sat Feb 04, 2006 6:46 pm

You could get a new 'face' for the speedo,
and 're-calibrate' by using a gps. !
Frinstance I have a 'road angel' and the speed is shown
on that , all you have to do is make a new speedo face
with the revised speeds on (obtained from the GPS),
then fit it over the old speedo face.
I got a little black book with me poems in

Sorry gents I stilll have not located the article.
Speedo recalibration====why not just go for an early morning drive with a mate (you do have one I presume?) in another car, and using mobiles or cb or something, make a not for every 10 mph his speedo to what yours reads.
Then, get on the pc. mess about on 'paintbrush' to give you the circle, and work out where each 10 mph is on yours. Print a copy, remove your speedo and then needle, and glue your new calibrated one on.
Voila you just saved about a oner, your mate thinks you're clever, and you can clean the dust out and change bulbs in the speedo at the same time. Easy peasy
