Speedo recalibration needed

Postby freefaaall » Mon Feb 27, 2012 4:42 pm

So, new (to me) van has had it's rear axle changed from the 5.13 it left the factory with to "something else". Net result is the speedo, and I guess the odometer, under read by about 20%. Can anyone recommend somewhere / someone in the Gatwick area that can use IDS to recalibrate?

Cheers!

Hi
It's the drive cog. My new to me MH 190 speedo was reading fast when I got it ( I think mine had a diff change ) anyway took the drive cog out which had 18 teeth and replaced with a 21 tooth cog now i'm spot on. The one I removed was white and the replacment brown, Total cost £12.00 from ford

Terry,

Mine's a MK6 so electronic sensor rather than mechanical drive. I understand that it should be possible to make the adjustment for the changed final drive ratio using the Ford IDS software. Just been quoted £88 by local Ford dealer for this change!!!!! A bit steep, even by their lofty standards

Thread is 9 years old...and the OP hasn't been here since May of 2012.

You'll need to get the "Extended Licence" from Forscan to access the module programming you're after.

When I fitted the taller diff (4.63 to 3.91?) to my 02 plate Mk6 Jumbo I used a drive pinnion from another model (Granada, Sierra?) that gave a good appoximation - it was closer than the original. I'm pretty sure the analogue clocks are 'mechanically' driven i.e. the signal goes from pick-up straight to speedo. I was going to get the speedo recalibrated by a place in Wimbledon, but he just gave me a P/No for the pinnion - £8ish from Ford at the time.

Later ones can be done via IDS. If you have ABS, you must set both axle ratio, tyre size, and tyre rolling circumference - least ways, I've had to with my 60 plate Mk7 Jumbo when going from 3.73 to 3.31, it gave a code in long corners (cloverleaf sliproads) til I set the tyre rolling circumference - I'm running 215/75 - 16s on 6 1/2J rims, and think the fronts are now a different rolling radius when cornering.
