Postby arcticdreamsibes » Mon Jul 04, 2005 10:38 pm

1 of the bolts that conect the exhaust on to the manifold has broken and i am not to sure about the other 2 one might be knackered would i be better to get a new manifold or do you think i should grind the bolts off and drill new holes and use some threaded rod and bolts to tighten it up?

Just drill the holes right through and use nuts and bolts, bearing in mind if you want to get them undone again to use copper nuts.

Yeah they are normally quite hard, so the other option is if there is a bit of the stud left in there that you can get a pair of mole grips on to then heat up the flange and work the stud back and forth to free it up.

Something i have done before with sheared bolts - if there isnt any bolt sticking out is keep blobbing mig weld on to it then cooling untill you get it high enough to get the stillsons/ molegrips on to - also the constant heating and cooling of the bolt, as MrP says loosens it and it comes out easier!!!

and very satisfying when it does !!!

I don't think you can get the manifolds new any more. :(
