Fuel filters ?

Postby troweltroll » Sun Jul 31, 2005 11:47 am

Hi everyone. I own a 95 80 swb which is very sluggish on hills, after going through the various threads on this site and doing all the checks suggested to solve the problem I have a query.

The van is fitted with a Fram fuel filter CA4986A
On the Fram website they give 2 Lucas CA 4986A
Bosch PS5960

My van is fitted with a Bosch injection pump does this mean i have the wrong filter fitted ?
Please can somebody put me out of my misery ?

Thanks for the reply mrmpuk. I apologize for not making my question clear. What i mean is when i looked on the Fram website Fram had 2 different filters for that particular model transit.

one for lucas assembly CA4986A and one for bosch assembly PS5960

As i have a Bosch injection on my van do you think i have the wrong filter fitted as they state its for a lucas assembly?
They both look very different.

If the filter fits then I would say it's probably okay, I think on yours you've got the quick release type housingn and from what I can remember there are only 2 type on filter that will fit, one with a drain on the bottom that can be removed to install the water sensor and the other that has nothing on the bottom.

If you've got the link for the website can you put it on here.

The ford manual I've got only list one fuel filter for the mk5 diesel transit.

another tip is if you suspect fuel flter is causing you problems you can tempararily bypass it (just for diagnostic purposes)
if i remember correctly the thread sizes are all the same!
if the problem is still there it aint the fuel filter!!!
