I think MT75 is best 5 speed gearbox but you need also change cardan.

Two welcomes in one post! Brocky, you can swap the MT75 or type9 for your gearbox, or try to get hold of another OD. The type9 is the easier swap, you can even use the same proshaft BUT is not as a relyable box as the MT75. The MT75 is a much better box, but you will need to cut the floor of the van so that the gear lever has room, and you will need the proshaft and crossmember to match.
Kantom, what's a cardan, did you mean crossmember?

Brocky I have just re read your post and noticed you have a MK3 (I think you missed this too Luke!). You won't have to cut the floor, what ever geabox will go in the van, you will still have to change the prop and have the crossmenber to match though.

sorry guys wrong! the overdrive gearbox is in the same place as the mk1 and 2,s a mt75 will not just fit in! the only gearbox that will fit in is the type 9 and this is alot of work ,its easyer to get the overdrive sorted, i take it you have a erly di overdrive or a v6 petrol 3ltr?????? :D
start by getting a test lamp and see if you have power to the solinoid on the overdrive ,the gearstick wires could be at falt! :D

ive just been and checked all the wiring and ive found the problem......as i was checking for continuity on the gearstick wires i found the switch to be faulty , so i took the tranny up the road and touched the wires together when it built up speed....low and behold the overdrive kicked straight in ......now ive got to try and get a new switch.....any ideas?

you could for now just put a simple on off switch in the dash for now until you can get the right switch or fabricate a mount for a switch and fit it to the gearstick with the mount..or have you tried for main dealer??you never know.

To put an MT75 in a Mk3 that came with an O/D box you only need to cut a new gearstick hole as the MT has the stick nearer the driver :)
