Mk1 Transit

Postby zien49 » Thu Aug 11, 2005 8:19 am

Hi, All,.
I have a 69 Mk1 body shell (with a dicel front no bonnet) with front & rear axles, I also have a 75 Mk1 camper van with a V4 auto g/box & rear axle. I Also have a gas conversion at the moment i am doing the body work & looking into fitting the runing gear I dont know whitch way to go (fit all the running gear from a dicel or stop with petrol/gas & a 5 speed g/box)
I have been told that you can fit all the running gear (eng, g/box & rear axle, can you fit the front axle) from a Mk3 88 to 94? into a Mk1 with a bit of work, is there any one that can help with this. I am looking at transits on ebay ie MOT failures.
(what is a auto g/box worth if i sell it & can you fit a 5 speed g/box to a auto rear axle)

All can be fitted to the Mk1, with different levels of difficulty. If you want to replace petrol with petrol (pinto for V4), you have 2 options, either fit a disel front end and bonnet, to give you more room forward, or cut/panel beat the bulkhead so the engine can go back into the cab. The gearbox swap will involve a crossmember and new proshaft, I am not sure if the floor will have to be cut for the 4 speed but will have to be for the 5 speed. Up to 91 the rear axle is a straight swap.
