Hi, I'm New to this board and was wondering if anyone might be able to help me with a problem with my
Ford Transit 96 turbo Diesel Vin # SFALXXBDVLTL10150
I had a very small leek from a small crack in the thermostat housing I purchased a second hand one from the other side of the country,
It had a crack too,Only when hot.
it went into limp mode occasionally so i did the old “stall in 5th gear and turning off the ignition at the same time trick”( Reset the Computer)
And i was on my way again .
The van never over heated
I finaly found a new Thermostat housing in the UK, it cost $250.00 Aussie to get to me .
I fitted the new Thermostat housing with a new Thermostat ford Australia recommended . Refilled the the Coolent and bled the system .No Leaks
It dose run a little hotter now ,Themo Gage used to sit just under ½ now it sits on ½ .
Now i have the ECU warning light coming on intermittently just under the temp gage on my dash .
I think it is the Coolant ECU Sensor
Tried to post a pic but carnt.
And it is going into limp mode after every morning start , but then fine all day. with the ECU Sensor light flashing.
I have all so tried This
ECU reset...the official method

Well, here's the official line.
It's called a "Power Latch".
Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
Turn off the ignition, then turn it on again to position 2 (running position) DO NOT start the engine.
Open bonnet and REMOVE BATTERY POSITIVE LEAD with the IGNITION STILL ON.
Then you have to touch or short the positive wire (that you just took off the battery) to earth (still with the ignition on)
Turn off the ignition.
Reconnect the lead to the battery.
Start the engine and DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE, let the engine warm up until the cooling fans cut in, or at least until the temperature gauge shows normal operating temperature. (Should not take too long as the engine was already at operating temperature)
Then drive normally, accelerating steadily up to 4,000rpm through the gears if possible.
This resets the ECU and it will then re-learn fuelling etc.
Does not take long as no need to leave battery disconnected for more than a few seconds.
Radio will need code entering and clock will need resetting.
Could a slightly hotter Thermostat Cause this Problem and dose anyone know what the correct thermostat heat range should be?
Cheers
