I have the same problem but it's happened just after I changed airfilter on my transit custom. I don't know if it's related but it does not appear at each ignition.
Maybe I made a mistake with the airfilter ? or it's the air charge temp sensor or the air mass sensor ???

It's on the end of the intercooler, which is the radiator looking part, nestled in the lower part of the front bumper. It ( the intercooler ) is maybe 45cm long, 10cm wide & 20cm deep. The sensor is the only electrical item on the intercooler, it's other 2 connections being 2 big ish hoses. You can often see the sensor by looking up from the ground.

I changed the air charge temperature sensor tonight, reset the ECU then went back out to see if it fixed the problem.

No it hasn’t as I didn’t get out my estate which is 1/2 a mile and the error kicked in again.

Anyone got any other ideas what could be causing the issue. Just had a price for air flow sensor and they are £294 from Ford so hope it’s not that.

My garage changed the MAF, did nothing, so I got myself an OBD reader and came here.. yep! 17 quid later, van is fixed.

The old sensor was quite grungy and dirty looking - would that indicate the air filter needs changing??

MAF sensor is usually reasonably clean as it's upstream of the breather pipe...MAP sensor is the one which usually gets grunge all over it....but they rarely fail.

Hi folks, I can't thank you enough.
Similar to others I was getting the P00BD MAF error code. The garaged reckoned it was voltages and changed my batteries. No complaint really because one was dead and i had a number of gremlins, but no surprise it didnt fix this problem. I changed the Charge Air Temperature Sensor, to a genuine ford part off ebay, and problem solved. To help others I can add to the diagonsis

Transit Custom 2.2 2013 13-plate. Lowest power one (100PS?)
Clearing DTS fault codes, and starting engine no probs. About 1 mile down the road the 'service immediately' message comes up.
I used Car Scanner app on android phone. MAF flow moving around looked ok. Noticed "Charge Air Temperature" stuck at 86decC
Got a charge air temperature sensor out. Its behind the bumper at end of intercooler radiator. Multimeter on it read 1.5kOhms
Bought a new charge air temperature sensor. Multimeter on it read 13kOhms, and quite obvioulsy reduce resistance when I warmed it by blowing on it.

Hope this helps someone with the diagnosis. Electronic devices (themistors in this case) are normally highly reliable, so this must be a duff batch so there are bound to be other people with the same problem.
5 minute job to change sensor. Nearly an hour to find it. I'm a better electronics engineer than mechanic.....

Air Charge Temperature Sensor.
The genuine Ford item seems to be part No. 2006019, and Rates Ford are currently selling them on Ebay:-

This is for information only, you should contact them for confirmation of correct fitment to your particular engine :)
