Paint

Postby Transitwoman » Wed Sep 07, 2005 2:43 pm

Hi, I have recently purchased a 1996 transit, there are some small rust patches on the body work which i need to treat before I get it signwritten next week. I have been unable to get the correct colour touch up paint, Halfords don't stock it but could mix it up with the paint code. I gave them the code A10 Dark blue but it is not listed. I checked with Ford who said it was the correct code. I the went to my local ford dealer who said they could mix the paint but only if it was going in for accident reapair etc, they refused to mix any to sell to me as they said it is not sold as a spare. I can't believe they produce a van in a colour which they then won't sell touch up paint for. Anyway, does anyone know of a piant colour which would closely match this transit blue or where I could get the real thing from. I have tried Ford Fjord blue but it is a bit too dark.
Thanks in advance
Stephanie

touch up paint

Postby Steve@CCR » Fri Sep 09, 2005 5:59 pm

touch up paint will soon be available for tens of thousands of colours
from e-bay member cosmetic-car-repair.

although that colour seems to be eluding me at the moment.

there's a chance that code could have an alternate as nothing is coming
up when i search a10.

Bit late I know, but welcome transitwoman, from another transit woman! How's it going with the paint search? Any luck or are you going to wait for Steve to get his service going?

A10 brings up nothing.

The full name of the colour could help.

I'm guessing that it could be Ontario Blue if it's a dark non metalic colour.
Ford used it sh*t loads on Basic fiesta's and Escort's

Ford colour codes are the worst in the industry, never straight forward.

The possible codes for Gentian Blue are : 1146, BK, BKP, D, G, KD, LPS, and R.

The colour was used from 1976 - 2003.

I have the formula for 30ml of PPG Deltron Direct Gloss, but it's tricky
to use as a touch in paint because you have to add a hardener to activate
it.

If i was asked for it on e-bay, i would probably try and mix a base coat
and laquer (2ct) equivalent and send that, but I'd need to see the colour first for a comparison.

Hi everyone, thanks for all your help, the colour was gentian blue and the international paint code was BK. Apparently the other code is the ford code and BK will be on another plate in the van somewhere. Anyway I have done the areas that will be near the sign writing and I will do the rest at a later date although I will need more paint but at least I know where to get it now. When the signwriting is done (tomorrow) I will post a picture. The van is going to be used to transport my dogs and equipment for the flyball team I belong to, flyball is a dog sport in case you are wondering!! The next job is to panel the inside and put up a bulkhead guard and the maybe see about having some wire gates made so that the van can be left open without the dogs escaping, at the moment they have to go in dog car crates but it would be nice for them to have more room.
