I think that only stored codes can be erased with the EPIC system, anything current will keep the EML on and stay in limp home.

Once the fault is sorted the EML goes out on it's own, but you get the 3-5 sec 'stored' code illumination at start up.

You need the proper Laser or Ford reader to get the correct codes, generic readers can give all sorts of odd outputs and readings that rarely pin point the issue - but are related in a round-about sort of way.

Minor Matt is probably the best one to figure things out.

UPDATE
I have found that since the repairs I can now reset the engine light by:
While driving in third gear, and leaving the van in gear, turn the engine off, wait 2 seconds then turn on again. the engine re-starts and the light goes out. Limp mode is gone and full power is restored. However the engine is then very prone to stalling at idle.
Any ideas why?
or what is causing this?
BUT
After turning the engine off, At the next start the engine light is back on and Limp mode returns.
I have done this several times today on 3 trips.
Any ideas why?
or what is causing this?
Thanks

If you stop it with the key, does it run-on for a couple of seconds :?:

Two most common cause of limp mode in Epic Transits

1. Worn timing belt. If light goes out at start up then comes on when revved it could be stretched belt
2. Failed shut off solenoid on pump. If this is the case it will run on for a few seconds after key is turned off

If light stays on then it’s in limp mode.

Clear all the faults, and the light will go out and stay out

Hi ake
I have to turn the key off Twice while driving in gear, to reset the engine light. The engine does not run on at any stage. However once the engine light has gone out, the engine does stall exceptionally easily between gear changes. The timing belt service sticker, says it is due in 20,000 km time. I could however change the timing belt now.
I also still have the one loose wire under the dash, near the fuse panel, that i can not find a spot for. It is a black sheathed wire with black with green tracer inside.
Thanks Will

No the engine does not run on at any time after being turned off.

To reset the engine light while driving, I have to turn the engine of TWICE.
But the light comes back on at the next re-start. The van has a LOT more power between 1,500 - 2,500 rpm, in limp mode than in normal mode.
Also the idle is 700 rpm in normal mode and 1000 rpm in limp mode

Cheers

Next step is oil change (does the van have a sludge sensor?)
Then find a connection for the last wire
Then codes reset with a laser scanner
Then timing belt

Logic says it's something that occurs at start-up, and doesn't have any affect when the motor is warm and spinning over.
