mk5 hiccups.. advice needed

Postby Mac1984 » Wed Aug 29, 2018 11:15 pm

Hi all,

Again i am struggling with my 1998 mk5.

I am currently doing a rather big trip, going to France.

On the Motorway, suddenly the engine kind of stalled.
It actually did quite a violent sudden movement, as if the fuel was shut off or something..

But no lights of any kind came on, i suspected a major problem and rolled onto the hardshoulder,

When suddenly the engine came to live again.. Then it worked as usal.

I could not make any sense if it, and for maybe 1 hour nothing happened.

Then the problem returned, seems to be only above or around 2500rpm, once it happened twice in a row, then again it drove for another hour without any bother.. Does not make sense to me..

I am more then thankful if somebody has any idea what that coul be?

Important maybe: its an epic to bosch conversion, and recently got a new turbo fitted.

If it happens, and i keep my foot on the pedal, it wont come back, but if i let go, it drops speed and revs, and eventually works normal. I have reached my destination for tonight, but have another 2 days ahead, and hope this is nothing too major lying up ahead.

Thanks again for any advice

When last did it get a diesel filter?
Also maybe vacuum in the diesel tank because the breather may be blocked
Any signs of diesel leaks around the diesel filter or pipes around it?

Check the feed to the stop solenoid.

Had something similar happen to me & it was feed to stop solenoid as stated above.

Apology for not coming back to this earlier.

Thanks a lot for your feedback folks, it was the solenoid indeed, or better the wire itself.

Must have been cracked underneath the insulation, i installed a new wire and the problem is gone ever since.

Cheers
