Rear twin wheel bearing kit's for transit MK3

Postby vana mana » Tue Sep 04, 2018 1:54 pm

Ok
Can anyone that really knows there stuff about twin rear wheel transits especially MK3 - can you tell me if the bit where the bearings and seals sit are all the same on twin rear wheelers
I've just found a kit on e bay and they advertise it for Mk2 through to MK6 and now I've gave them my vehicle Reg they say they can't help. . But in there picture there is a lock tag washer which I believe is only used on twin rear wheelers

I'm wondering that they just don't want to commit in case it's wrong ?

Are those middle chunks of metal that the bearings and seals sit in all the same for mk3

Any help appreciated as always

Hank you

Ok, maybe my English is too poor and maybe I didn't rightly understand you.
Are you talking about HUB, where inside are two bearings and two seals?
If the bearings and seals are the same in Mk2/3/4/5 and Mk6, hubs must be the same inside.
Outside:
- hub in Mk1/2 and Mk3 has six threaded wholes for screw mounting halfshaft mushroom.
- hub in M4 and Mk5 has screwed studs in this six holes - so for halfshaft mounting are using nuts (not screws).
- hub in Mk6 has the same bearings and seals, but outside looks a little different (red arrow). And again for halfshaft mounting are using screws.

So: hubs, bearings and seals between models Mk3,4 and Mk5 are fully replacement. It can be a little problem with nuts/studs for halfshaft mushroom.
About models Mk2 and Mk6 - maybe, but only... maybe.
For Mk1 - bearings are the same, seal is only one and different.

I am very happy to help you, but first you must help me to understand your problem. I consulted your posts with very good Anglicist - and still I don't really understand any of that. Image

What you need to buy, what you bought, what went wrong???

Ok, now I understand.
So I checked bearings dimensions (in many sellers and in SKF catalog), and :
- bigger bearing has outer diameter 97 mm (sometimes is written 96,8 mm with bigger precision), inner diameter is 57 mm (56,8 mm, 57,1 mm)
- smaller bearing has outer diameter 85 mm, inner diameter 51 mm (sometimes is written 59,8 mm).

In net in ads is plenty of mistakes. In ads https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152561675620&seller=&toolid=10018&52578719" rel="nofollow">https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152561675620">https://www.ebay.com/itm/https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152561675620&seller=&toolid=10018&52578719" rel="nofollow">https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152561675620 outer diameters looks ok (96,8 and 85 mm), but inner diameters are 52,2 and 50,1 mm - I think it is error, and should be 57,2 and 51,0 mm. But we cannot be sure about it. So you can look somewhere else.

I think not only this last one link is ok - in net is plenty correct ads.
I suppose bering kit from your link (E bay item number https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152561675620&seller=&toolid=10018&52578719" rel="nofollow">https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152561675620) is also ok. But in ads are errors in dimensions - because of sellers sloppiness.

But this last is given without any errors and with correct Ford Finis nr 5015650.
