Connect TDCi Inlet Manifold Clean

Postby ab20000 » Sun Sep 30, 2018 11:54 am

The connect needs a bit of work, looks like I’m going to need to get the manifold off my Transit Connect TDCi engine. Need to give the manifold a proper clean as got the EGR problem, few questions.

- Does anybody know where there is a step by step guide?
- How long should I allow for the job?
- Only new part I can see I need is an inlet manifold gasket but have I missed anything?
- Are there any special tools I need? Heard I need to take exhaust manifold off, is there a chance I’ll need a torch on the bolts?
- Can I access everything from standing or do I need to get the car jacked up / on a ramp?
- Planning to use carb cleaner to clean the lot but is there a better option?
- Any other general tips?
- Need to change cambelt and oil change soon, is it worth doing all together?

Thanks,

Oven pride works well on cleaning the inlet manifold, wear gloves as its a messy job.

i helped a mechanic do mine, he used the ramp to get at the turbo, got to take exhaust manifold off to get at some bolts on the inlet, got as much black tar out as i could then soaked in brake cleaner then air dried, had new gaskets but old one was ok, messy time consuming job......then blanked off the egr. finally when back together we ran Wynns egr cleaner thro' it. think it took about 6hr
