powere steering rack pipes

Postby gazboy2002 » Mon Oct 08, 2018 6:21 pm

hello guys and girls
ive got a damaged pipe on the steering rack the smaller one of the 2 metal pipes that only conect to the rack body its self so my question is can i make a new one from copper rather than pay £73 for a new one from fords i can reuse the old fittings unless someone nose the actuall size of them then i could oreder new ones
ive tried 15 or more shops for bits to do this today thankfully all were in a small area i did find a shop with 3/16 copper pipe that would fit the fittings once flared
but the chap behind the counter put me off buying it by saying the copper may possibly not take the high presure of the pump
any info would be great
thanks gazboy

My first thought was that copper may split under pressure, but then, they use it on brake lines which possibly run at higher pressure :?

Bit the bullet and went to fords for the pipe
Did ask the nice lady behind the counter if she would kindly put her barraclava on whilst serving me though
