Is my rear axle finished.? Transit mk5 Six Stud

Postby vana mana » Tue Oct 16, 2018 9:03 pm

Hi all
I'm here again with major problems
I think my rear axel has had it
It's been clonking for a couple of days and I managed to check the axle oil through the filler plug and there's none left
I'm wondering if I refilled it and added STP axel additive us there a chance it may help?

Or am I wasting my time and should I just look for another axle

ALL help appreciated

Thank you

Unfortunately oil won't fix a broken pinion or crownwheel....if that's what the "clonking" is.

It maybe the pinion/prop flange nut thats slackened off , sometimes tightening up with a new nut works

grab the prop at the diff end and give it a good shake.
If it wobbles it's either the nut is loose or pinion related.
if it wobbles.
take the back plate off the diff and fish around in the stinky oil for bits of metal.

If metal bits are found then :(
