Newbie TDi question

Hi thanks for adding me to the forum. I've got a mk5 transit tipper with a turbo di engine. I was wondering if this engine is the same block as the banana engine just with a turbo bolted on or are there fundamental differences between the two engines. Tia. Cheers Phil

Welcome to the forum,

I've just been looking up about the turbo engine recently and from my reading the main differences are:-

the turbo cylinder head combustion chamber has a larger volume and recesses between the valves and slightly different piston tops to allow lower compression, different camshaft, shorter injectors that don't protrude so far out of the head, oil cooling of the pistons.
