Cylinder head Bypass Oil filter on a 2.4 Mk7 RWD 140hp

Postby rainfallgr » Wed Nov 14, 2018 7:29 pm

Hello,
I just serviced my Transit today and found that it has 2 oil filters.
First one is the classic paper type under the engine, and the second is a spin-on type in the Rocker cover in the cylinder head, called, Bypass filter.
FordEcat has this part number 1372808

My question is do i need to renew this filter in every oil change and if not how often?

My Transit is 2009 model with 68.000km on the clock and i doubt if anyone has ever replace it.

It is a service item...I replace mine every second service. It's not a "spin-on" filter...it's actually a centrfugal filter, it spins on a shaft fed by oil pressure which shoots jets of oil from the filter itself....causing it to spin inside the rocker cover and helps catch heavier than oil & metalic contaminants etc...

Thanks for your reply, i have a haynes manual and they don't say anything about it. Also on the net there is no information about it.
I will order a new filter and replace it.
Is there anything to keep in mind when replacing?

Nah...It's pretty simple....just don't overtighten the cover....and use a new O-ring.

Ps...only the 140 & 200ps engines have them.

It was discontinued after a while, I think when the oil capacity was increased to 10L, my 2010 hasn't got it.

Ok

I bought a new filter and try it to renew it and this happened!

And just for reference i bought a MANN filter. Normally the code is ZR 7001. I went to 3 shops and they all told me the ZR 700x was the old code and was replace with ZR 7001. So i bought ZR 700x (this was what they had in stock) which says is it for LAND ROVER.

Anyway filter is the same exactly but the O-ring inside is wrong for TRANSIT, had to use the old one. So for anyone who want to renew the filter with MANN buy ZR 7001.

PS: The genuine for filter inside is also made by MANN with a FORD stamp on it.
