Mk7 with almost 300.000 km

Postby wilbertd » Thu Nov 15, 2018 2:14 pm

Hi,

There is a Transit Tourneo (MK7) for sale in my neighborhood. It's from 2010, all looks well maintained but it has run already 290.000 km, it has been working as a schoolbus (countryside).
For the same price I can buy a car which has run at least 50.000 or even 100.000 less, but they are all many years older, and with the salty winters over here you can really tell by the rust...
I'm a an idiot considering buying this car?

Depends what your planning on doing with it?
But with a full service history etc high mileage doesn't always mean it's a scrapper.
If it's been in the charge of the council then they're usualy well maintained. But you still have to weight up the condition of the rest of it to see if it's worth it.

That mileage would not put me off if the vehicle is in good condition and well maintained. Plus, it will be reflected in the price.

If it's been well maintained and not abused the cylinder block should be good for the same mileage again and some of the more 'consumable' items, eg. injectors, turbo etc. may well have already been renewed.
Drink moderately, eat healthily, exercise regularly, die anyway.

300,000 km is only 186,411miles approximately which isn't really that high for a well looked after van
