Alloys on custom

Postby loot » Tue Dec 25, 2018 4:23 pm

Seen a set of alloys with a pcd of 5 x 120, they are 255 35 20 off a transporter.
Seen some adapter plates that are 25mm thick.

Thinking of it on the custom swb.

Anyone any experience with this or am I on drugs?

Thanks chaps, ps I'll amend, move, edit the post as required.

Try some of the (whispers out of side of mouth, using hand to cover) Facebook groups there s any number of "persons" proclaiming to of done all sorts of things.
But don't see why not if the spacers are right and the load ratings on the alloys are good for the vehicle?

Provided the spacers were upto the job I don’t see why it would be any problem.

Most are around 25mm, which is twice as heavy as the transit hub :D
I was looking at spacers to throw out my rear wheels a bit.

They're for a vw transporter so fingers crossed.
The transit wheels are hubcentric so I think the bolts are just to holdd them to the flange :P

I'm on the few fb clubs but tbh I don't think I can trust the validity of any claims there

The main thing would be the alloy spacer load rating and the 25mm extra that might fowl the arches.

Had that on my white escort saloon which I never had a problem with until I had 5 fat family members in and cut through the tyre down the lanes

You can get spacer that are hubcentric, I have seen some land rover one on that auction site that reduce from 160 to 120 iirc.

Me too, was just wondering if they brought the wheels out to hit the arches?

Well they won't space out as for as my wheels  how wide are the alloys 6"?

Them spacers only add 2.5cm which isn't that much so I think depending on the wheel (not including the tyre) width and back space is you might be ok, you could fit a 10mm narrower tyre :D

My Weller's are 8" wide with a 4" back space but I fitted 225 tyres instead of 235 tyres and there just on line (the tread) with the outer arch :P

Looking at the wheels you pictured I think your more likely to have inner arch/wheel tub clearance issues then outer arch :?

Only wider mate and if the 25mm brings it out then it should fit fine, only worry is the tyre catching the arch.

Are the custom No1 and others no2 in the pic? 10" wide  8)

25mm is about 1 inch so you'll be adding 2.5 inch from the face of your wheel now, spirit level and tape measure will give you a rough idea if they'll catch the arch.

Hang on I've made a mistake  if the et offset is the same on both wheels then your only adding 1" out towards the arch and 1.5" towards the inner arch/tub :D

I have 20” alloys with 255/35/20 tyres. Spacers also fitted, 18/20mm rear, 8/10mm fronts. No issues running on these.
