Transit engine in boxer problems

Postby Mjewoodcrafts » Tue Apr 09, 2019 7:24 am

Hi all,

Hope I’ll be able to get some help here, I have a 2008 boxer van with the transit engine. A few months ago it started losing power and smoking quite a bit, then I discovered that there was a tear in a breather pipe just behind the air flow sensor. I got that replaced and it helped for a couple of months then the problems came back, worse this time.

I was told by one mechanic that it was the injectors so booked it in and when they were tested they showed 87% efficiency was not the problem. That mechanic identified a fuel pressure problem but wasn’t sure if it was a pump or sensor causing the issue. He replaced the fuel filter and it made a bit of a difference but the problem still persists of no power, lots of black smoke when driving and a whining noise under load. and I don’t even hope to try and overtake as it’s pointless. Burning through fuel like crazy too.

Van currently has 152k on the clock but overall is in very good condition, no rust on chassis and still drives very well.

I hope you ford folks don’t mind this going on the transit forum but was told on the puegeot ones I’d have a better chance with it being a transit engine.

Many thanks

Can you tell us exactly which engine is in it.....??? Just telling us you have a transit engine doesn't help much....there's probably over a dozen different types to choose from.

I'd start by checking all boost pipes for splits.
RUST IS LIGHTER THEN CARBON FIBRE

So o changed the air filter tonight, seemed to make a difference, but more power going up hill and definitely not as smokey. Plus the smoke seems to be a bit whiter now not pure black reek.
Whistling a wee bit so I’m wondering is it maybe a turbo issue? When driving it feels like it’s building up pressure and then losing it, sort of a lurching feeling of that makes sense.
