P1174 engine code after swap

Postby colinhamilton » Sun Jul 21, 2019 11:30 am

Hi, recently changed transit 2011 engine 2.2rwd engine over. Started up 1st turn of the key but have an engine light on and p1174 cam sensor fault. Checked both cam and crank sensors all the earths and all the other connections seem to be in good working order. Hit a rock and wondering if I’ve missed anywhere? This is the second engine that has been fitted to it. 1st one snapped a camshaft and was driving fine before hand. Thanks in advance.

Do you get 2011 2.2 rwd ??
Cams snap when timing chains jump or break unless oil pump has given up and cams seizing due to lack of oil

Hi, I have the exact same fault. New engine fitted now P1174 cam sensor fault coming up as soon as it is started. Rechecked cam timing. Timing is spot on. Runs ok just coming up with this fault? Did you manage to sort yours? Cheers, Andy.

Any news on a fix for this. Just had my engine rebuilt. Now fitted and have this fault code. Starts perfectly but slightly lumpy at idle. Disconnect the cam sensor and it barely starts.

Cheers Dave.

If interested, I’ve cured it. I needed to reset the learned values for the pcm. I can only assume the old engine had a stretched chain which the pcm had picked up over the years and the new one with a new chain threw it out. Having reset the values and starting it up it was lumpy and hunting for a minute while it relearned the values but the code didn’t reappear and after a good road test throughout the speed range up to 60 the engine is running as it should with no codes coming up.

I can confirm this fault and fix
Engine swap I did also had a stretched timing chain
And cam sensor fault after fitting new engine
Reset the values so far so good
