Policy is to leave them as they are unless they spam, or otherwise break forum rules :)

Besides, what would you do on these long winter days whilst the pools are frozen over :P

Hello Steve,

Just got round to stripping your old Engine, not so good news, one of the cylinder head valve inserts had fallen out !! this caused quite a bit of damage to the head and piston, This happens and there would have been nothing you could have done about it. Please see the attached photos.
Best Regards,
Peter.

Would be handy to see ATTACHED PHOTO'S :?

It is common for valve & valve seats to fail on LPG engines

Not to derail this thread but valves burning out happens on SOME engines being run on LPG without flashlube or similar. Saying it is common is a bit of urban myth, you've also got to factor in nobody gets an LPG conversion then does 4k a year going to the shops, they are going to be doing high mileages to get their money back, higher mileage more likelyhood of failure due to wear and tear, as things get older converted vehicles get bought by people looking to save money (like me), I very much doubt if anybody ever checks valve clearances as part of routine servicing on an older vehicle when it is specified by the manufacturer then they wonder why it burned a valve with no warning.

Valve seats dropping out isn't common although I have heard of it happening several over the last few years, all on pinto powered transits, I guess the probably aren't that many Pintos left that get worked hard, if the same failure happened in a track day vehicle or kit car you would just put it down to one of those things.

it will be interesting to see how my transit performs now i have a high compression engine fitted..before it was a low compression one which in my opinion isnt the best for lpg..ive driven 3 maestro vans all on gas which were high compression engines..first did 180,000, 2nd did 190,000 but big end went so fitted another engine and did another 200,000 with no problems on lpg...very rarely did i adjust valve clearances and no flash lube used. IF you keep lpg tank topped up well and dont let it run dry i doubt you'll get valve problems.I believe my first transit pinto engine failed after doing 140,000 on gas was due to the fact it was low compression and when it was re-conned after it only lasted another 75k miles but one reason why one of the valves went was that i drove it during a heatwave long distance. Now i have a high compression fitted and i can tell that it performs much better on gas with lower revs and better mpg so think it will do as good as the maestro engines did...personally i think flashlube is a waste of money..£15 a bottle for £1000 miles means after 100k miles its going to cost you £1500 so you could pay for another engine or two for that much spent..not worth it.
Done 5000 miles already on my new engine in 7 weeks..and sounding very sweet.Getting around 200miles for £26 worth of gas..not bad for a small box van

Sounds like you're happy with your new engine.

What was the outcome of the AA and the old engine? I

Don’t hold your breath for a response. He shies away from answering that question each time he’s asked. But I think we all know that the AA laughed at him and brushed him aside

You won't get valve problems out of any engine with no fuel in it....

gasbo wrote:...one reason why one of the valves went was that i drove it during a heatwave long distance...

So it wasn't the AA man after all.....?
