Not likely as they are electronic.

Most likely a battery or starter problem.

Check under the drivers seat and if there's 2 batteries then get both tested.

Then go from there.

It may but that will bring the battery down.

If it has 2 batteries under the seat, the rear 1 links to the front to start, but over time the front 1 wears out and gets low but still let's it start the van so you don't really notice, if it was off the road long enough to drain the front battery to the point where the rear battery is struggling then that explains it. Normally a good run would sort it out but if the front battery isn't holding charge plus you are using the lights wipers and heater more on the dark then that is that.

A faulty glow plug can drain the battery also but generally only on bad batteries and we don't really see much of it, on the mk7 it is controlled by the bcm/relay too i think unlike the mk6 which would dead short the main fusable link (although I may be wrong).

The ignition switch osso is common fail but if it is turning over albeit slowly and no warning lights on then I would think that's OK.

Get batteries tested mate.

Hope you don't mind me jumping on this post but I'm having the same problem, in the morning battery's are sounding lazy but just start my van, so yes I'll get the battery's checked, but how do I get to them if I need to change one or both, there's like a plastic cover over the battery's then the seat AND at the back of them (and the seat) there's a board.

Battery cover slides out towards the front, unbolt seat and lift it off, up, and onto the passenger seat.
Undo battery clamp, 3 bolts/nuts, and lift out, and there's your batteries :)

Lazy starter is dead common, you'll be amazed how quick it turns over with a new one, If indeed yours is goosed. There is a Bosch recon unit i use, they seem to last & were £125-150 last time i looked. Euro's stock them as well.

Spinning over slow? Or taking a fair few turns to start?
