Over heating, limp mode, no hot air in cab mk6 2.0ltr fwd

Postby sethyb123 » Mon Jan 06, 2020 3:51 pm

Hi all,

I had an overheating issue where the van seemed to overheat and the guage went to the red and then the engine cut out.
I called Rac out and got the readouts:

DURATORQ-DI - 2.0L - 74 (101)
DTC: P1576,Pedal Position Not Available
DTC: P1342,Pedal Demand Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
DTC: P1343,Pedal Demand Sensor B Circuit Range/Performance
DTC: P007F,Charge air cooler temperature sensor bank 1/2 correlation

I have since replaced:

thermostat
cylinder head sensor
cleaned intercooler
and replaced accelerator pedal
filled with new coolant (red OAT)

the issue still continues.

I am ordering a head gasket test kit and in anticipation a new water pump, gasket and grease (is copper grease correct for between water pump and Power steering pump?)

i have seen similar posts on here and found some useful information but wanted to ask for any more advice on changing the water pump. I have already had the PAS belt off and am a little worried about taking the EGR metal pipe off to get to both pumps as the bolts look pretty rusty. I am not a mechanic but have time on my side at the moment.

any advice much appreciated.hoping its not the head gasket!

Head gaskets very rarely fail on these vans, soak the nuts for the egr pipe in wd40 (other penetrating oils are available) for a day before and just take your time removing them.

Sounds like your water pump has failed, hopefully it's not stripped the shaft from the pas pump that runs it.

So I have managed to remove the water pump and the splines are badly worn and there's no grease to speak of at all,
I also unscrewed the power steering pump and its basically dust inside the housing that takes the water pump splines and hard to see any teeth in there.

So i am planning to replace both but am struggling to remove the power steering link bolt which attaches to the top of the power steering pump...wont budge.
I am buying some flare spanners as i am close to rounding the bolt.

is there a way of cutting the metal pipe that passes through the bolt and buying a new bolt and reattaching?

I also can't remove the temp sensor? thats fixed to the water pump housing lower down toward the engine which also takes a small hose.

I have read in other forums i need to take this off and put onto the new pump, it seems pretty stuck on there. I have removed the single bolt.
any idea what this is called in case i break the old one and need to order a replacement.

thanks in advance.

Now you know why your van was overheating, the water pump wasn't pumping

That Pas nut thingy you are having trouble with, if it's the one on the metal pipe I had to put a spanner on it the use my breaker bar as leverage against the spanner and the engine  once it's cracked it undoes nicely.

No idea on the pipe on the water pump other then putting it in a vice and turn the water pump.
