Poor MPG from 2019 transit sport

Postby sladeyboy1 » Wed Jan 08, 2020 6:42 pm

Changed my 2014 manual transit sport to a 2019 Auto sport in September. Ever since I got it my MPG and the mileage from a full tank of diesel is getting gradually worse. The new van has the Ad blue to supposedly get better mpg but im getting about 70 miles less out of a tank than with my old sport.
At present im getting only:

370 miles from a full tank and 26 mpg. I don't even drive it hard at all yet every time I fill it up it seems to get worse and worse.

Whats everyone else's mpg on a sport and what you getting out of a full tank of diesel?

Thanks All

What were you getting from the previous one, 32mpg? Auto will obviously do a couple less and the new one isn’t run in yet (about 10k miles should do it), so you’re not far off at the moment ime.

I managed 19.5 on a 300mile run today but I'm running a bit heavier so probably not comparable but your definitely better for fuel economy than me

Really..!! 19.5..?? I get ~33-34mpg, (~8-9L/100km), out of mine and it's a LWB hi roof too. Makes little difference whether it's loaded or not.

just to let you know Ad Blu doesnt increase MPG, its actually sprayed into the exuast fumes as they leave the engine to make the fumes less harmful

With it being an "Auto" won't help either.

AdBlue helps react NOx emmisions, it does nothing for fuel economy. It's what lets E6 diesels have some torque under 1500rpm, as you can inject fuel without loads of NOx and soot coming out the exhaust.

Newer transits have had to comply with new regs on the accuracy of the speedo and the onboard computer
for example the old 2010 focus we ran at 55 miles perhour indicated on speedo was actualy only doing 51mph on the satnav
so its 49mpg computer was actually really only 46mpg
the milometer and everything relies on the input from the transmitter in the g/box
We used to remap Volvo trucks and in htat we could change the signal value for the speedo so the truck would do 70 and indicate 56 - fools the tacho too
Change vale of 1v = 10mph to 1.1v = 10mph you can do it on the transit easy by doing a tyre size change from eg 205 65 16 to 195 65 16 and you just gained X amount of speed

so the answer is Your new van more accurate than your old one - plus auto is 3mpg loss by the book

My 170 sport auto does 31.9 currently, my previous van ( of german origin) managed 40 comfortably.

Its been in for the injector recall... 3 times....

It revs on its own, judders, revs when at a stop, I've had enough and asked for it to be collected and new one sent out.

Don't know how far I'll get, but I'm really disappointed with this van, which is a shame as they look cracking

Can I have a hug please =)
