Steering wheel options

Postby Paulscarbs » Sun Jan 19, 2020 5:13 pm

Hi,
I’d like to change my steering wheel. Have heard some people swap theirs for another Ford one. What options are available to me?
Mk7 Transit.

i have a transit custom wheel on mine, you might need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor though, and I haven't got the buttons working yet.

My 2012 MK7 is a Trend and the wheel is very nice. Leather with the silver bits. You could upgrade to that if you fancy the Trend one... I think some have the Custom/MK8 steering wheels in their MK7s...

Ford mk3 mondeo fits but is rubbish, cmax wheel fits but needs sas calibrating for abs/esp, mondeo mk4 /smax/kuga type wheel fits, transit custom /mk8 fiesta wheel fits.

You need the wheel with the 2 squib holes and if they are offset then the sas needs calibrating.

Perhaps you see a wheel you like and ask if that fits lol :D

They both physically fit but you need the airbags and you also need the plastic airbag connectors to swap over a they lock differently but they come with the wiring for the wheel which you need too.

Should all be here.

Will a Ford Mondeo Mk3 steering wheel with airbag fit?

Thanks for the earlier link Loot. I note you made reference to the said steering wheel. What was the final outcome? Will it connect directly without any calibration?

Well, after attempting to remove the Transit Mk7 steering wheel for almost an hour, despite watching some YouTube videos (could find none for the Mk7 Transit) I return here to find out what sort of clips the airbags is held on with.

Do the clips prise up, down, forward (towards the airbag) or something else?

Desperate to get them swapped over. Pretty please.

Thanks in advance.

Fitted my replacement steering wheel (pretty sure it's a Transit one or very close to it).

Connected everything up (yes I have the correct orange wires for the Cruise Control) and enabled it using Forscan but no light on dash.

Which module do I need to configure and to what values?

Perhaps I also need to state that Code: U2101 Control Module Configuration stated 'Incompatible'

Status:
- DTC Present at time of request
- Malfunction indicator lamp is OFF for this DTC

Module: Powertrain Control Module
